Daina of Times Past

First Appearance: Eternals: Thanos Rises (September, 2021)

Purpose: Evaluate events of the past

Mythological Inspiration: This Eternal is inspired by the goddess Diana from Roman mythology.

Mythological Culture: Also known as Artemis in Greek mythology, Diana is the goddess of the hunt, domesticating animals, fertility, childbirth, and the moon. Diana is considered a matriarchal deity and a mother figure who inspires hope.

Cybele of Times Present

First Appearance: Eternals (Vol. 2) #1 (July, 1985)

Creators: Peter Gillis, Sal Buscema

Purpose: Evaluate events of the present

Mythological Inspiration: This Eternal is inspired by the goddess Cybele from Greek mythology.

Mythological Culture: Also known as Magna Mater in Roman mythology, Cybele is the goddess best known for being a motherly deity and is often interpreted as the Titan Goddess Gaea for their identical matriarchal qualities. Unlike Gaea, Cybele is depicted as a more exotic and mysterious goddess who has a dedicated yet disorderly cult devoted to her.
