The Celestian Priests

They are a group of Eternals who have the ability to communicate with Celestials. The Celestian Priests influence Eternals' theology.

Ajak

Purpose: “Keeper of the Old Ways”

Mythological Inspiration: This Eternal is inspired by the mythological figure Ajax the Great from Greek mythology and the god Quetzalcoatl from Aztec mythology.

Mythological Culture: Ajax the Great is a historical figure in Greek mythology best known for fighting in the Trojan war as a defensive combatant with no records of wounds whilst Quetzalcoatl is the god of light, wisdom, Aztec priesthood, and one of the four Tezcatlipocas who preside over the cardinal directions with their duty to watch over the West.

Makkari

Purpose: “Keeper of the New Ways”

Mythological Inspiration: This Eternal is inspired by the god Mercury from Roman mythology.

Mythological Culture: Also known as Hermes in Greek mythology, Mercury is the god of travel, messages, communication, boundaries, and prophecies. Mercury is one of the 12 Dii Consentes in the Roman pantheon which makes them a major deity in Roman mythology.

Harpokratis

Purpose: “Keeper of The Mysteries”

Mythological Inspiration: This Eternal is inspired by the god Harpocrates from Greek mythology.

Mythological Culture: Harpocrates is the god of confidentiality, secrets, and silence. Harpocrates was the Greco-Roman interpretation of the Egyptian god Horus the Younger. Also known as Horus the Child, Horus the Younger differs from Harpocrates as the god of the sun and the skies with the role of protecting Egyptian royalty and the deceased.

Master Elo

First Appearance: Quasar #12 (July, 1990)

Purpose: “Keeper of the Paths”

Mythological Inspiration: This Eternal is inspired by the god Saveasiʻuleo from Polynesian mythology.

Mythological Culture: Also referred to as Elo, Saveasiʻuleo is the king of Pulotu, the underworld of deceased spirits in Polynesian mythology. He became the king of the Pulotu domain at the request of his brothers Salevao and Ulufanuaseʻeseʻe; some tales interpret him as a demon instead of a god. Saveasiʻuleo was known to often wander the Earth.

I-Chel

Purpose: “Keeper of the Skies”

Mythological Inspiration: This Eternal is inspired by the goddess Ixchel from Mayan mythology.

Mythological Culture: Also known as Toki in Aztec mythology, Ixchel is the goddess of the moon, rainbows, midwifery, birthing children, textile, and medicine in Mayan mythology. Ixchel is depicted as an aged goddess who is an expert physician and a destructive matriarchal deity who can command the rain to cause floods and storms.
